  • 6 features no renovated kitchen should be without Do it right or go home.

When you renovate a kitchen, you need to be as concerned about the details as you are about the big picture. It’s all well and good knocking through a wall to connect the kitchen with a living or dining room, but if (for example) the wall colour doesn’t complement the countertops then it may end up looking a bit amateurish. It’s not just about the aesthetics, either – there are certain details that need to be got right in order to ensure that the room is functional as well.  We’ve put together 6 features no renovated kitchen should be without. • The lost, the abandoned, the beautiful How I long to restore them and give them the love that they deserve.

From city centres to secluded spots, there is no rule when it comes to abandoned property.  I always wonder when I see such a building, how many stories could the walls tell about their owners? When and why do they become lost, become unloved and abandoned. With many it’s undoubtedly down to money. Family feuds or just not enough to mend that window, that roof, that wall, taking care of the heating — until eventually it’s entirely unlivable. They still stand Majestic in their sittue, commanding their presence on the skyline, slowly decaying until they become lost for good.  How beautiful are they? How I long to restore them and give them…

  • Georgian manor house standing in magnificently landscaped grounds

Low Street, Collingham, Newark South Collingham Manor is a fine Grade II listed Georgian manor house standing in magnificently landscaped grounds of around 5 acres, in a peaceful location with views of open countryside to the rear. The property has been sympathetically restored by the current owners retaining much of the original character of the building and enhanced with quality bathrooms and a bespoke kitchen with a Rutland conservatory off. The original Messinger orangery on the front of the property has been fully restored. The main reception rooms each have impressive marble fireplaces and there is a combination of oak and pine boarded flooring, parquet flooring and stone and tiled…

  • Old jewellery workshop restored as beautiful living space

This project consisted of a space which is a detached freehold former live/work warehouse which was a jewellery workshop with 2, 000 sq. ft. of accommodation set over two floors near to the canal in Islington. The property sits in a beautiful gated courtyard amid other creative spaces such as graphic designers and artists’ studios. This mews house was extremely dilapidated when I went to visit it with the clients a young couple both working in the city who were moving from a penthouse in Shoreditch to this larger property. The property consists of ground floor open plan living space with kitchen, dining and living area as well as ground…

  • A converted Victoriana leather factory transformed

Guest post from Susan Quirke, Quirke McNamara Consultancy I was commissioned by an Influential city banker to undertake this project in the Alaska building Bermondsey.  The Alaska Building was designed by world-famous industrial architect Thomas Wallis, best known for the Firestone and Hoover Buildings The building is a converted Victoriana leather factory and the property still had some of the old winching equipment left intact which was a fantastic feature. When I first say the property it was very tired and run down and hadn’t been updated since the original development. A tiny galley kitchen and a dining room that was basically in the dark as well as a poor…

  • The picturesque High Wood Barn – Awe-inspiring views over the Yorkshire Dales

A Beauty Spot Situated at the end of the pretty village of Rathmell (population only 300!) on the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales lies High Wood Barn, a very special home off a little leafy lane. With awe-inspiring 360 degree views over the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales, High Wood Barn was once just that – a majestic stone and timber barn, blending perfectly with its surroundings.  Now painstakingly restored, the house now has the quite exceptional view of Pen Y Ghent from several of the rooms, including the dramatic galleried living room, and the picture-postcard gardens. Rathmell is approximately three miles from Settle, a market town in…
