On Monday I was invited by UBM Live Built Environment to attend the May Design Series in London. The May Design Series brings together five distinct districts, The Furniture Show, Lighting [incorporating Arc], DX, Kitchen & Bathroom and Décor into one huge industry trade show. This was my first time attending this event and I was extremely excited and intrigued to see what wonders would be on display. I was also extremely curious to discover how this show would differ from a consumer show such as Grand Designs Live or Ideal Home Exhibition. Old jewellery workshop restored as beautiful living space
This project consisted of a space which is a detached freehold former live/work warehouse which was a jewellery workshop with 2, 000 sq. ft. of accommodation set over two floors near to the canal in Islington. The property sits in a beautiful gated courtyard amid other creative spaces such as graphic designers and artists’ studios. This mews house was extremely dilapidated when I went to visit it with the clients a young couple both working in the city who were moving from a penthouse in Shoreditch to this larger property. A converted Victoriana leather factory transformed
Guest post from Susan Quirke, Quirke McNamara Consultancy I was commissioned by an Influential city banker to undertake this project in the Alaska building Bermondsey. The Alaska Building was designed by world-famous industrial architect Thomas Wallis, best known for the Firestone and Hoover Buildings The building is a converted Victoriana leather factory and the property still had some of the old winching equipment left intact which was a fantastic feature.
