Let there be light Attending the May Design Series. Part 1, Lighting.
On Monday I was invited by UBM Live Built Environment to attend the May Design Series in London. The May Design Series brings together five distinct districts, The Furniture Show, Lighting [incorporating Arc], DX, Kitchen & Bathroom and Décor into one huge industry trade show. This was my first time attending this event and I was extremely excited and intrigued to see what wonders would be on display. I was also extremely curious to discover how this show would differ from a consumer show such as Grand Designs Live or Ideal Home Exhibition. The first difference you notice about this event is the scale, thankfully the layout was clear and…

An amazing medieval Italian inspired Gothic villa In …. Arizona?
I have featured a couple of properties from Scottsdale, Arizona, each of them stunning of course and normally oozing with rustic chic. Well this is certainly not rustic, you will certainly say it’s completely over the top and yet it is somehow warm and endearing. This Medieval Masterpiece Italian Inspired Gothic Villa has an arch entry which was inspired by St. Patrick’s Cathedral. You can’t help but be intrigued by the Hand carved gargoyles, over-sized sconces, and the secret door. This property has dream home luxuries such as a bar, underground wine cellar, art gallery, Roman-style bathroom, guest house, outdoor shower, swimming pool with grotto and so much more. Be prepared…

The lost, the abandoned, the beautiful How I long to restore them and give them the love that they deserve.
From city centres to secluded spots, there is no rule when it comes to abandoned property. I always wonder when I see such a building, how many stories could the walls tell about their owners? When and why do they become lost, become unloved and abandoned. With many it’s undoubtedly down to money. Family feuds or just not enough to mend that window, that roof, that wall, taking care of the heating — until eventually it’s entirely unlivable. They still stand Majestic in their sittue, commanding their presence on the skyline, slowly decaying until they become lost for good. How beautiful are they? How I long to restore them and give them…

How to design the perfect modern house for a historic setting The creation of Overton Court, Bristol.
Guest Post by Richenda Oldham, editor of Property News magazine It is not often that a solitary stone wall can dictate the style of an entire new homes development, but that is exactly what has happened at Overton Court, a unique collection of six modern houses at Bracken Hill, in Leigh Woods near Bristol. But then Bracken Hill is rather special. Because the wall in question encloses not just a handsome Victorian House with all its trimmings – coach house, stables and chauffeur’s lodge – but also the remains of a fabulous five-acre garden, which just happens to be listed. The history of the gardens is a fascinating story in…
